Kelvin and the Infamous Machine

Building a more confident demo for a successful funding campaign

Argentinian developer Blyts dreamed of creating a classic point-and-click adventure about historical figures, a tribute to the warm and funny heyday led by the likes of LucasArts. But the team’s first demo foundered on Kickstarter, and the campaign was ultimately canceled after earning just a fraction toward its goal.

Agency’s process helped Blyts focus the project more appropriately toward adventure gamers, and helped implement clearer and more responsive interplay between the player and the world. With a more confident, lively and mature demo, the relaunched campaign was chosen as a Kickstarter staff pick, gained acclaim from the media and genre peers, and earned close to $30,000 against a $20,000 goal.

Square Enix Collective

Helping indie teams prepare for bigger opportunities

Square Enix’s Collective team believes in nurturing unique indie concepts to their full potential. Agency was the perfect partner for that goal, commissioned to support Collective partner studios as they prepared their game concepts, demos and materials to launch funding campaigns.

Agency partnered with Kitfox Games to prepare unique procedural RPG Moon Hunters for primetime, with assessments focused on helping studio founder Tanya Short suss out and maximize the distinctive strengths of her project, and provided a sounding board for her questions and concerns about media outreach. Moon Hunters had a successful PAX showing, and earned four times its goal on Kickstarter.

Bringing a unique concept to a wider audience

Tale of Tales’ games are considered market leaders, at the forefront of the new wave of progressive videogames. They’ve benefited from positive press and engagement from a base of knowledgeable, industry-literate players, but that hasn’t been matched by a commercial return. With the studio looking to Kickstarter to fund their next work, the studio came to Agency for support in appealing to a wider audience while retaining the gameplay and artistry that makes Tale of Tales games their own.

Agency helped Tale of Tales decide on which project among their incubating concepts would be the most ideal for a mainstream push, and continued working with them through regularly-scheduled meetings and reports designed to offer perspective on pressing issues.
